It is easy to look at the story of Mary and Martha through our shame filters. We simply take the story to create a law that we need to spend more time with God, then judge ourselves when we are busy and miss that time.
But what if we get our eyes off of ourselves and turn them to Him.
Jesus, the Creator of all things told Martha that Mary had chosen the one thing that truly mattered (Luke 10) and it wouldn’t be taken away from her. If Jesus determined that it was the one thing, then it was the one thing that mattered to Him. This is not about religious duty. If it was, Jesus would’ve been applauding Martha and sending Mary to assist.
Jesus said it is the one thing that matters because it is the one thing that He desires. Do you realize that His heart wants connection with yours more than you will ever be able to even begin to crave connection with Him? It was the one thing that He came to restore. From the Garden and walking in union with Adam and Eve until today… He always wanted sons and daughters. His heart longs for the one thing… not because He needs it, but because He wants it.
Prayer: Lord, I need a revelation of You; Your nature, Your heart and Your love for me. ~Amen
